Baltimore County - The hailstorm caused damage to properties and vehicles, with likely damage to roofing and exterior metals. The storm was reported near the Long Green area of Baltimore County with hail in diameter of 1".
Harford County - The hailstorm caused extensive damage properties and vehicles in Havre de Grace, MD, with hailstones reported to be as large as 1.5" Roof and aluminum siding damage likely.
Cecil County - another 1.5" hail storm was reported in Rising Sun, MD. Hail of this size can damage different types of roofing, including asphalt shingles, cedar shingles, and metal roofing as well. It can also damage aluminum siding, and sometimes even vinyl siding, depending on the density of the stones and the driving winds, among other factors.
St. Mary's County - According to NOAA, a 1" hailstorm was reported near the town of California, MD. Depending on certain factors, this size hail can damage exterior parts of residential structures, including some types of roofing and siding.
It's important to note that NOAA only publishes the reports of hail that are 1" in diameter or greater. Also, no reports are ever all-encompassing, complete, or completely accurate. It likely hailed in several other localities in Maryland, causing damage.
April 1st marked a busy day for mid-Atlantic weather in general, as the region saw not only hail, but strong wind reports and even a few tornados touched down. Hail, wind and tornado reports have been documented in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
